Integrated Writing:

1. Capture the energy;

2. Protect from meteoroid impact;

3. Better for the environment;

1. 不认为比earth-based更能capture energy, 而且万一坏了或者寿命到头了还要运输到太空,又贵又费时;

2. 虽然能防止meteoroid impacts, 但是防止不了space dust, 因为它们太小了很难避免。这些dust以非常高的速度运行,会给吸收器带来非常大的热量,从而造成损害;

2Owl parrots

3. Stoats

Do you agree and disagree with the following statement? It is difficult for teachers to be both popular (students like them) and effective to help students learning.

With the increasingly fierce competition in school enrollment and employment in contemporary society, it is understandable that unprecedented emphasis has been laid on education. Teachers, who have played an indispensable role in students’ academic performance in all ages, are therefore drawing much attention from modern citizens. In fact, with the growing awareness of student-centered class, many teachers, especially the younger ones, have gained significant popularity from their students thanks to their more stimulating teaching methodologies compared with traditional ones in class. However, some people point out that it is almost impossible for a teacher to be both popular among students and be able to help them learn effectively in school. From my perspective, these two aspects are not contradictory at all; instead, they are actually mutually reinforcing.

First and foremost, popular teachers are more likely to develop better teacher-student relationship. To be specific, teachers who are highly welcomed by students are usually more humorous and approachable, which means rather than being lofty teachers, they are more like friends to their students. Thus, mutual communication between these teachers and their students may occur more frequently. In other words, when students encounter difficulties either in study or in their life, they will be willing to share their troubles with these teachers and turn to them for help, which enables the teachers to be aware of their students’ problems in time and help them figure out effective solutions accordingly. On the contrary, if a teacher is unpopular and disagreeable, students may be reluctant to communicate with them when they are struggling with the comprehension of class contents and the completion of their assignments, which can obviously exert negative influence on their digestion and grasp of what has been taught.

Furthermore, students will learn more effectively in popular teachers’ class. Usually, if students like the teacher, they will be more motivated to get involved in class and express their thoughts freely. Therefore, students’ critical thinking ability and their innovative creativity are more likely to be triggered during the discussion between them and the teachers, which can leave the knowledge imparted in class more impressive to them and improve their academic achievements as a result. On the other hand, have the students disliked their teacher, they might be absent-minded in class and would not focus on what the teacher is inculcating, let alone participate in class. As a consequence, students tend to gradually become passive receptacles of predigested knowledge and may learn knowledge only by rote rather than through understanding, which is unable to help them lay a solid foundation for future study.

Admittedly, some opponents may pinpoint that because popular teachers are always good-tempered and tolerant to students, some unruly ones are inclined to disobey the teachers’ instructions if they are too easy-going. For example, they might not finish their assignments in time, so their academic performance may be unsatisfactory. However, should the teacher force the students to obey their rules and directions, those students would be more rebellious and would even be tired of study, which may lead to more serious consequences. As a matter of fact, if students really like their teacher, they are more likely to enjoy their homework since they are more interested in these teacher’s class and they do not want to make people they like disappointed as well.

Taking all of the analysis above into consideration, we can safely conclude that it is highly likely for students to learn more effectively when they like their teachers in school.

Which of the followings do you think is the most important thing in helping students to study in colleges and universities?

1. Inviting tutors to provide individual instruction for the students who have difficulty

in study

2. Having the help and encouragement from the family and friends

3. Having excellent teachers in high school who can help the students before the university.

Nowadays, more and more students attend the university to pursue their dreams, and how to qualify the academic life becomes rather crucial. The best way to help student succeed in their learning, I believe, is to receive encouragement from family members or friends with previous university experience.

In the first place, communication with friends and family can provide incessant motivation to the young students, especially those freshmen. After entering university or college, they are desperate to break the chains connecting them to school. They gradually develop difficulty to identify their orientation at very beginning of university education. As a result, problems emerge. But if some valuable advice or encouragement were offered, students would have behaved better and thus prevented themselves from indulging in entertainment in various kinds. Personal experience of higher education would only make the advice more convincing and much easier to be adopted by the students.

Besides, help from friends and family is more welcomed by students than that from tutors and teachers. young people are emotionally attached to friends and family members, which makes the opinions from them accepted more easily. It is another story with the tutors who can provide individual instruction or excellent teachers who prepare students better for university. Teachers are considered as authoritative superiors to students in the sense that they think from the perspective of an educator rather than an learner. Therefore, many students would reluctantly take the methods or advice proposed by them.

Though tutors providing individualized help can solve some problems of certain students, there still are many students who refuse this method either because of hidden costs or possible embarrassment. In addition, high-quality of secondary education is not realistic. As we know, load of study has already been heavy. If school education needs to be improved, students would, undoubtedly, be required to finish more papers and work for longer time. It would end up with students’ mounting difficulty in current stage of education and of course affect the later stage.

All in all, family’s and friends’ advice and encouragement is more tempting since it can remove the difficulty and is easily taken by young students.

Schools always collect information about teachers’ performance and give rewards to the teachers who perform well. Which way do you think is more effective to evaluate teaching performance?

1. Evaluating teaching performance by students

2. Evaluating teaching performance by other teachers

Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

In order to get comprehensive understanding of teachers’ performance at school and give rewards to those who have outstanding performance, schools are supposed to make evaluations from the following two ways: evaluating teaching performance by students or by other teachers. As for me, I support the former way.

First of all, the target or the audience of education is students, therefore, it is their right to say “yes” or “no” to their teachers’ performance. After all, teachers’ job is to pass the knowledge to the students and as the recipient of the knowledge, students’ feedback is crucial. Furthermore, it is the students not other teachers that build direct contact with their teachers, thus, the direct or the real feeling to teachers’ performance must come from students.

On the other hand, if the evaluation job is done by other teachers, there will exit two possible problems: the first problem is that teachers will not evaluate from a recipient’s angle but from a teacher’s angle. In other words, they are not the students themselves and thus they can’t fully grasp students psychology and feeling toward their teachers’ performance. The second problem is that there may be unfairness in the evaluation process. For example, if two teachers are competitors, then one teacher possibly gives bad assessment to the other one. On the contrary, if two teachers are friends, then they may over-evaluate each other.

Thirdly, from the school’s perspective, evaluating by students will have much more benefit. For instance, such an evaluation system will encourage teachers to improve their academic ability and help schools to optimize their teachers. In addition, as private schools become popular, putting students’ feedback and feelings in the center is the general trend.

Above all, teachers are just like actors on the stage and students play the role of audience. They two sides build direct contact with each other. Therefore, students can give the most authentic assessment to their teachers’ performance.
